Virtual Realities: Navigating PEI Youth Online and Offline Technology Use

INTRODUCTION

You are invited to take part in a research study. The study is being done by Université Laval in partnership with the Government of Prince Edward Island (PEI). We want to learn how internet use, including social media and gaming, affects PEI youth. This information will help you decide if you want to be part of the study or not.

WHY IS THIS STUDY BEING DONE?

This project aims to study how youth use online and offline technology. We want to uncover trends, preferences, and connections with mental health, education, and social relationships. This study will look at online behaviors, such as social media, gaming, and general problematic internet use. Recent findings show that gaming, social media, and other online activities sometimes involve real money, blurring the lines between them. Thus, this study seeks to understand the latest trends in online behaviour and how they may affect our everyday lives. We will explore these new issues to give practical insights and suggestions for youth, parents, schools, and public health officials.

WHY ARE YOU BEING ASKED TO JOIN THIS STUDY?

You are being asked to join this study because you saw our advertisement, flyer, or email, and believe you meet the eligibility for this study. It is your choice whether you wish to participate or not. If you do decide to take part, you can still change your mind and stop participating at any time.
