Hello Spring! Tips to welcome this new Spring season of well-being

Spring in bloom

Happy Spring!

After a long winter, nothing beats basking in the spring sunlight. It’s self-care at its best, if you ask us. Looking after yourself, getting outdoors, engaging in other activities as alternatives to gambling and engaging socially with friends and family away from gambling are all good ways to help you get through gambling cravings that you may be experiencing.

Here are some tips to help you make the most of this season, improve your overall well-being and move away from any gambling harms and worries you may experience.

Spend Time Outdoors
One of the best things about spring is the warm weather and longer days, which means more opportunities to get outside. Spending time in nature has been shown to have numerous mental health benefits, such as reducing stress and anxiety, boosting mood and improving cognitive function. Take advantage of the nice weather by spending time outside every day, even if it’s just to drink your morning coffee.

Connect with Others
Spring is a great time to connect with friends and family. Social connections are important for our mental health and spending time with loved ones can help reduce stress and boost your mood. Whether it’s a picnic in the park, a bike ride, or a phone call, make an effort to connect with others when you’re feeling isolated.

Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment and fully engaged in what you’re doing. It’s a great way to reduce stress. There are many ways to practice mindfulness such as meditation, yoga, or simply taking a few deep breaths and focusing on your senses. Try incorporating some form of mindfulness practice into your daily routine this spring.  Check out our Videos section for a great 10 minute Mindfulness Meditation you can try anytime you like.

Get Enough Sleep
With the longer days and more sunlight, it’s important to establish a consistent sleep schedule and limit exposure to screens before bed. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night to help improve your overall well-being.

Movement
Movement is often underutilized as a first line of defense against poor mental health. Find ways to stay active that you enjoy, such as hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, or listening to your favourite podcast and going for a walk.
