It’s ok to talk about gambling worries. You’re not alone.

Friends talking about gambling worries

If you’re worried about your gambling—or concerned about someone else’s—you are not alone. Many people find it difficult to talk about gambling-related challenges because they fear being judged or misunderstood. This stigma can prevent people from reaching out for support. The truth is that gambling harms can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or income.

Starting the Conversation

Talking about gambling isn’t always easy, but a simple conversation can be an important first step.

If you’re concerned about your own gambling, try saying:

  • “I’ve been worried about my gambling lately.”
  • “I don’t feel like I’m in control as much as I used to be.”
  • “Can I talk to you about something that’s been bothering me?”

If you’re concerned about someone else, try:

  • “I’ve noticed you’ve seemed stressed lately. How are things going?”
  • “I’m worried about you and wanted to check in.”
  • “Is there anything you’d like to talk about?”

The goal isn’t to have all the answers, it’s simply to start the conversation.
